Donate books

—or volunteer with us—

for a great cause.

Local. Easy.

We are looking for MORE covered space, about 10’ by 10’ to hold containers of books. A garage, a trailer, or a corner in a warehouse will do. If you can assist, contact us ASAP pointpleasantkiwanis@gmail.com.

Donate Books or Volunteer with Us!

What’s BookSmiles?

The Kiwanis Club of Point Pleasant is proud to support BookSmiles, a non-profit organization that brings books to children and classrooms in need throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. BookSmiles is based in Pennsauken, NJ.

How to Donate Books in Pt. Pleasant Boro or Wall Township

Donate in Point Pleasant

Our 4 brightly painted garbage-can-sized recycling bins accept donations of new or gently used books at the Point Pleasant Boro Recycling Center/Arthur Avenue Recycling Center located behind Stop & Shop Plaza at the intersection of Bridge Avenue & Route 88 in Pt. Pleasant Boro. You must be a Boro resident to enter the center and dropoff books, but not to pick them up if you volunteer with us.

We accept adult and kids books, all genres. Please donate with dignity: No books that are falling apart, no DVDs, no notepads.

You must visit during the recycling center’s official hours.

Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 3:45 pm
Saturday 9:00 am – 2:45 pm
Sundays (March – December) 9:00 am – 11:50 am

Donate in Wall Township

Donation bins at both Wall Township recycling centers are out. You do not have to be a resident to donate! Wall Township will store books on-site for us, so we don’t need volunteers at those locations. BookSmiles will pick up books directly in Wall.

How to Help: Volunteer to Transport Books Locally

Now anyone in the community can volunteer with Kiwanis—you don’t have to be a member (or a Point Pleasant resident!). Sign up here for a book pickup shift.

  • We do this every other week on Saturdays—you can pick what times work for you so long as you go within reycling center hours at Pt. Boro and Wall. Check their hours before you go!

  • Collect donations from the Pt. Boro Recycling Center and transport them to Wall Township Recycling Center South (or North if that works better, but South is closer to Pt. Boro). Just tell the attendant you’re getting books for Kiwanis/BookSmiles.

  • If the donation bins are empty when you get to the recycling center, you’re free to go.

  • If you can’t fit everything in your car, just take what you can. You don’t need to go back.

  • We’re using Signup.com to manage volunteers. Sign up here for a book pickup shift. When you sign up, you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.

  • You can volunteer once or numerous times.

  • You will need a vehicle to transport books.

  • If you need a letter to verify your volunteer hours, just email pointpleasantkiwanis@gmail.com.
